Fifth Sunday of Lent 2013

Priest's introduction

Veiling our eyes to the Sacred Presence of God,
we deign, brothers and sisters,
to approach his Divine Majesty with our humble prayers.

Intentions

For our Holy Father, Pope Francis, that he may shepherd the flock of Christ with graciousness and love, and that, remaining faithful to the Sacred Tradition and Magisterium, he might show anew the Face of the Lord to the world.

Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

[For this diocese of N., that the Lord might send us a faithful and courageous bishop, who will lead us, with a firm yet loving care, into the Loving Truth of the Divine Life of the Blessed Trinity.

Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.] * in dioceses sede vacante

For the catechumens and converts to the Faith who will be baptised and received in the Sacred Paschal Season, that, cherishing their sacred Christian vocation, they might continually grow in love of the Lord and serve to teach their elder brothers and sisters in the Faith by the example of their zeal and conversion.

Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

For civil society, and all the nations of peoples, that they might turn away from error, and recognise God's venerable hand in all creative acts, especially by marriage and childbearing, and by the fostering of a just and equitable opportunity and love for workers and unemployed persons.

Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

For the victims of unjust laws and uncharitable persons, that they might be comforted by the love and compassion of God's holy people, and, by his grace, come to know that they are truly loved.

Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

For the dead, that the Lord might have mercy on their souls, and lead them, through the Passion and Cross of the Lord Jesus, into the glory of his Resurrection.

Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

[Our Lady, our Mother Thrice Admirable, always hears the prayers of God's holy people; we, who were entrusted to her maternal care by Our Crucified Lord, turn to her and pray: Hail Mary] * in dioceses where the Ave Maria is permitted in this prayer

Priest's prayer

Almighty and merciful God,
mercifully hear the prayers of your people
and comfort them in their sorrows of mind and body,
that, through the intercession of Saints Joseph of Arimathea
and Mary Magdalen, disciples of the Lord,
and Saint Patrick, the holy bishop of Ireland,
we may, by your grace,
shun all that is evil,
and continually turn towards the Rising Sun.

Through the same Christ, our Lord. Amen.
